Welcome to Wellness Noire!
Learn all about this new space by The Black Girl Doctor, and listen to a voice note from one of our editors.
Hi there,
We are excited to announce that we officially moved our newsletter and blog to Substack under a new name, Wellness Noire! Rest assured that we will continue publishing the same great content you’ve grown to love from The Black Girl Doctor and that the content is still for YOU, our beautiful community of ambitious leaders, learners, creatives, and all around movers and shakers with big dreams and big purpose.
This launch to a new platform gives us room to grow (dropping more content more frequently), a pathway to push out carefully curated resources (think book recommendations, podcast recordings, and exclusive wellness events), tools to engage with you in new formats (hello voice notes and video messaging), and to get us to our ultimate goal of building deeper connections with our community (that’s you). Whether you are new here or a longtime reader, welcome to Wellness Noire. We think you’ll love it here!

I’m Dr. Sandra Yankah Addo, a licensed clinical psychologist and your Wellness Noire editor. Throughout my life and career, I’ve embraced self-care not as a luxury, but as a lifestyle—something sacred and strategic that allows me to live and lead with clarity. In a world that rarely pauses to offer ease, I’ve found that the more I anchor myself in rest, reflection, and joy, the more resilient and creative I become. Prioritizing well-being has always been my way of staying aligned with purpose while protecting my peace.
Each month I’ll choose a topic to explore with you and then drip related content to your inbox. The content will look a little different each month (because we not boring over here) but, my promise is that what I share will always make you think deeply (drawing inspiration from the teachings of Black Psychology), make you laugh (or at least chuckle a little), push you to expand your beliefs about what is possible for your life (so you can inch closer to being all you were meant to be), and will consistently remind you and teach you how to truly live well in the midst of your hustle (because joy is your birthright and your work).
Our first issue…
For our first issue, I chose the topic, “The Soft Life, Hard Truths.” We explore what it means to live gently in a world that often asks us to grind endlessly, and how we can re-imagine strength as softness in action. Whether you are looking for perspective or just something to soothe your nervous system, I’ve got you covered.
So get cozy, take a deep breath, and click below to read the first issue. 🤗
